Makar Sankranti is celebrated as a Spring-Harvest festival throughout India. The festival is celebrated differently in different parts of India. It is christened Bihu in Assam, Uttarayan in Gujrat, Pongal in Tamil Nadu and Lohri in Punjab. Kite flying is an inevitable part of the festival in many states of India, especially in Gujarat, Maharashtra, UP etc.
